Management Analysts salary in the US

From the median paycheck to the top 10%, this page breaks down earnings for management analysts and consultants using American Community Survey records.

How much do management analysts and consultants earn?

The typical (median) annual earnings for management analysts and consultants come to $96,449, which is 84% more than the $52,508 median for all US earners aged 25 and older. Among the 171 occupation groups in our data, only 23 report a higher median, so this is one of the better-paid lines of work in the country. The sample is 53,693 people aged 25 or older who listed this job and had earnings during the year.

Management Analysts: annual earnings thresholds (nationwide)
PositionAnnual earnings
Top 10% start at$233,508
Top 25% start at$146,926
Median (top 50%)$96,449
Bottom 25% earn below$57,869

How wide is the pay range?

This is a field with a long upper tail: $146,926 gets you into the top quarter, but the top 10% starts near $233,508, 2.4× what the median worker earns. On the lower side, 25% reported $57,869 or less. These are annual totals, so part-time schedules and partial years pull this number down. Put differently, the middle earner makes 1.7× what someone at the 25th percentile does.

Earnings by age

Typical pay rises 23% between the 25–34 and 45–54 age groups, topping out at $109,982. Among those 65 and older who still work, the median is $56,671, 48% below the peak — reduced schedules explain much of that.

Men and women

By sex, the medians are $104,947 (men) and $88,258 (women) — a 16% difference. Women account for around 44% of the records behind these figures. Because these are annual totals, more part-time work in one group widens the gap; the survey doesn't adjust for that.

Men$104,94729,906
Women$88,25823,787

Does education change the pay?

Credentials make a large difference. Workers with a professional degree have a median of $115,442, 67% more than those with a high school education or less ($69,208). The largest group in the sample has a bachelor's degree (22,443 records). Levels with fewer than 100 records are left out rather than estimated.

Where the most work, and what they earn there

The five states with the most management analysts and consultants in the survey are California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Virginia. Pay differs noticeably even across these five: $111,970 in Virginia versus $83,789 in Florida. 47 states have 100+ records for this job; elsewhere the sample is too small to publish, and none of the figures adjust for local prices.

Occupations with similar pay

Nearby on the pay scale are financial managers ($96,449), industrial production managers ($95,459), physical scientists, all other ($95,317), and marketing managers ($94,452). Similar pay doesn't mean similar work — training, hours and risk differ — but it's a useful reference when weighing a move.
